Qualifications:

Accounting qualifications are essential for a career in accountancy.

AAT :

Association of Accounting Technicians a foundation qualification. AAT is suitable for those who have up to A-level qualifications. There are no pre-requisites to register; however, candidates must be 16 and over.

It consists of 4 levels:

AAT Level 1: Introductory Certificate in Accounting

AAT Level 2: Foundation Certificate in Accounting

AAT Level 3: Advanced Diploma in Accounting

AAT Level 4: Professional Diploma in Accounting


ICAEW (or ACA):

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. To register, you will require a minimum of 2 A-level passes and 3 GCSE passes. There are three levels to this qualification:

Certificate Level: consists of 6 modules.

Professional Level: consists of 6 modules.

Advanced Level: consists of 3 modules.


ACCA:

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. You do not require a degree to register; however, a degree in a relevant subject may give you exemptions in some modules.

Applied Knowledge: contains three modules

Applied Skills: contains six Modules

Strategic Professional: contains four modules

Ethics and Professional Skills: exposure of real-life business environment to build ethical and professional skills


CIMA:

The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. There are no requirements to register.

There are four levels to this qualification:

  1. Strategic Level
  2. Management Level
  3. Operational Level
  4. Certificate Level

Experience :

Along with your studies and qualifications, you will require practical experience in the accounting field. It is a requirement for you to qualify as an accountant. Most accounting firms prefer some level of experience in accounting, or sometimes in using specific accounting software. Bookkeeping and VAT :

This course will teach you the essential procedures of bookkeeping

  • Bank reconciliation
  • Generating a VAT return
  • Submitting VAT to HMRC

You will be working on different types of companies with various schemes of vat.

Bookkeeping and Payroll

Software used: Sage 50 Payroll

  • Setting up a company
  • Recording employee details
  • Creating Pay Elements
  • Entering employee payments
  • Updating records
  • Generating P32, P45, Payslip, and other reports
  • Processing Leaver, Statutory Pay (SSP, SMP, SSP)
  • Submitting FPS (Full Payment Submission) to HMRC

Accounts Assistant

Software used: Sage 50 Accounts

  • Recording foreign currency Sales and purchase invoices
  • Generating EC Sales List
  • Submitting intrastate return
  • Creating foreign currency bank accounts
  • Performing Bank reconciliation
  • Generating a VAT return
  • Submitting VAT to HMRC

Management Accounts

Software used: Sage 50 Accounts

  • Cash Flow Projection
  • Management accounting profit and loss
  • Balance sheet
  • Budgeting and forecasting
  • KPI Summary reports
  • Management Report
  • Ratio analysis
  • Costing Schedules

Final Accounts

Software used: Sage Productions software

  • Corporate tax
  • Self-assessment
  • Trading account
